The Price Edit

Beautiful is good.
Knowing what it costs is better.

Editorial pricing intelligence — honest, real-world cost guidance across destinations and travel styles.

What does a trip actually cost?

Most travel websites show you a price. Very few explain what that price includes — or doesn't. The Price Edit is Atelier Voyage's attempt to be honest about what travel costs at different levels, so you can plan with real expectations instead of surprises.

All prices below are illustrative examples based on research at time of publication. Actual costs vary by season, availability, origin city and specific preferences. Every trip is confirmed before booking.

Three ways to travel well

Comfort

$6,000 – $12,000

The sweet spot for most travelers.

A meaningful step up in quality, space and experience. This is where Europe opens up properly, Japan becomes accessible, and Caribbean travel moves from resort to resort-plus.

    10 nights from ~$8,500/couple

  • Japan — Tokyo + Kyoto

    12 nights from ~$9,200/couple

What goes into the number

The line items most people miss

A quoted price is rarely the full price. Here's what to account for when you're building a real travel budget.

  • Airfare

Typically 20–35% of total trip cost. Varies significantly by origin, season and booking window.

  • Accommodations

The largest variable. A 4-star hotel and a private villa at the same destination can differ by 3–5×.

  • Transfers & ground transport

Often overlooked. Private transfers in Italy or Japan can add $500–$1,500 to a trip.

  • Experiences & excursions

Budget $100–$300/person/day for meaningful activities. Guided tours, private dinners, cooking classes.

  • Dining

All-inclusive removes this variable. Independent travel: $150–$400/day for two at quality restaurants.

  • Travel insurance

Typically 5–8% of trip cost. Non-negotiable for international travel.

  • Gratuities & resort fees

Often not included in quoted prices. Budget $20–$50/night for resort fees; 15–20% for service.

The Atelier Voyage Take

The best deal isn't always the cheapest one.

It's the journey that gives you the most for what you want to spend. Two trips at the same price can feel completely different depending on destination, timing, what's included and how well they're planned.

Atelier Voyage compares destination, timing, airfare, accommodations, cruise options, experiences and available promotions before helping you choose.
